TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

BPCA is developing its network of specialist associate trainers to help meet growing demand for professional pest management training across the UK.

The expanded network will give BPCA greater flexibility to deliver courses in different regions and across a broader range of technical subjects, while bringing more experienced pest professionals into training and education.

BPCA already works with associate trainers to support its training programme. The Association is now inviting expressions of interest from experienced trainers and pest management professionals who may wish to join the network on a freelance consultancy basis.

The aim is to build a strong pool of trainers with different areas of expertise, geographical coverage and availability.

Sharing industry knowledge

Associate trainers may have opportunities to deliver established BPCA courses and qualifications, as well as specialist technical and practical training.

Areas may include pest awareness, the RSPH Level 2 Award in Pest Management, Level 2 Safe Use of Rodenticides, insect identification, bird and wildlife management, field biologist training and advanced technical subjects.

BPCA is particularly interested in hearing from people who combine strong technical pest management knowledge with the ability to make training practical, interactive and relevant to learners.

Trainers may work with people at different stages of their careers, so the network needs people who can adapt their approach to suit different levels of experience and help learners prepare effectively for assessments and examinations.

Developing the trainer network

BPCA is looking to hear from people with an advanced pest management qualification and experience of delivering pest management training.

A recognised teaching or trainer qualification, such as a Level 3 Award in Education and Training, is useful. However, pest professionals with suitable technical and training experience who are willing to work towards the qualification can also express an interest.

Associate trainers are paid an agreed day rate for delivery, with travel and subsistence expenses covered by agreement. Opportunities will vary depending on training demand, subject expertise, location and availability.

The network will also provide a route for suitable trainers to work towards becoming a BPCA Accredited Trainer in the future.

This is not an employed position. BPCA is building a flexible network of independent specialists that it can work with as training opportunities arise around the UK.
