GET INVOLVED: Innovative block treatment - could you be part of the treatment phase?

PRESS RELEASE

Veritas Pest Consultancy are conducting a new and innovative project that is tackling a long-seated cockroach and bed bug infestation in a 22-story block of flats in Wolverhampton.

They are reaching out specifically to servicing BPCA members who work in the West Midlands and would like to take part in the treatment phase of this project.

Consultant Anna Mollins said:

"This is a new opportunity and a really interesting project that Veritas Pest Consultancy has taken on with a housing association to manage block treatment in a way that hasn’t been done before.

"Often in these cases, we see attempts by pest professionals who struggle to access properties, don’t have support from the client or residents, and end up treating some but not all. Leading inevitably to time, effort and money wasted in the long run.

"We are project managers in this case, or, as I like to think of us, the architects. We have been working on this for more than half a year through data collection and site preparation, which will enable the best mass treatment phase ever attempted in a building of this type.

We are calling out to servicing members who want to be part of this treatment phase to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

What does Veritas need and what does this project look like?

Pest companies who are willing to work with us and follow SOPs and methodology we have created

We want this project to be as successful as possible, and the work we have done so far has led to a specific treatment plan that needs to be followed, which may differ from your standard working practice. This will include application methods, what chemicals and brands you need to use, the need to break down and rebuild beds, etc.

BPCA member companies willing to work alongside others

To ensure quality and speed, and to utilise the access that has been legally arranged, we will split the property across 2-4 companies, all working at the same time. This method should also help pest companies to apply time to this project without putting too much pressure on their current routine work.

Support from Veritas

We are getting a lot of preparatory work in place before your first treatment visit, which should make this easier for you than perhaps other properties. You’ll know which beds and soft furnishings are in each flat, the room layouts, the hygiene status, vulnerability markers, the level of infestations, and the times of day for access, etc. We are working with the housing association that ensures access to all properties through legal channels; we are providing residents with instructional videos on how to prepare their property ahead of your visits; and we are creating alternative locations for residents to go to when they can’t stay in their homes during the treatment.

Project timescales

Whilst this project will likely be ongoing for a number of years, the initial treatment phase will take place from the end of July for 3 weeks, spanning a 6-week period, with another repeat at a later date, depending on data.

Additional benefits of this project

  • This work will almost act like a litmus test for the housing association; you’ll have the opportunity to become a named supplier for future works on many other properties
  • You will be part of the first case study of block treatment on this scale, so marketing opportunities will no doubt come from this
