INITIATIVES
British Cleaning Council is proud to support the launch of the Breaking Barriers Bursary, a new initiative from the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners.
Could someone you know benefit from the breaking barriers bursary?
Applications now open – closes 1st August 2026

The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners has launched the Breaking Barriers Bursary: a new financial award for young people whose parents or guardians work in the UK cleaning industry.
Kevin Meighan, Master of the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners says: "For 40 years the WCEC has championed this industry, raising standards and opening doors.
The Breaking Barriers Bursary is the most direct expression of that mission we've ever undertaken. It offers talented young people from cleaning industry families the kind of financial support that can make the difference between going to university and not going at all. We're proud to lead the way."
The bursary is worth £5,000 per year, paid across each semester, for up to three years. It is open to anyone aged 18 to 25 who is due to begin university in autumn 2026, regardless of degree subject or employer.
Applicants will be assessed on need, worthiness, endeavour and overall performance, and will be asked to submit a short personal statement.
Applications close 1 August 2026.
Please share this with your members, networks and contacts. The broader the reach, the greater the difference this bursary can make.
